What Are Cannabis Pipes?

The cannabis pipe, also known as a weed pipe or grass pipe, is one of the oldest and most popular smoking devices in the world. It is a portable device designed specifically for smoking cannabis.

A pipe typically consists of a bowl, a chamber, and a mouthpiece, through which the smoke from the herbs is inhaled after lighting.

What are the advantages of pipes?

Unlike joints or bongs, a handheld pipe is extremely portable, ready to use immediately, and usually requires no additional accessories such as rolling papers or filter tips.

Pipes are also inexpensive and can be used discreetly anywhere.

They are easy to clean and simple to handle.

Pipes are also available in every material, every size, countless designs, and every price range. Depending on the design, they’re suitable for herbs, resins, or even oil. This makes them incredibly versatile.

Pipes are the ideal smoking device, especially for use on the go.

What material should I choose for my pipe?

Glass Pipes and Oil Pipes

Glass pipes are currently among the most popular pipes.

For one thing, they offer a wide variety of designs. Glass pipes are available in every imaginable color and shape and have evolved into true design objects in recent years.

There’s also a technical reason for the growing popularity of glass pipes: their thermal properties.

Glass is a poor conductor of heat. It’s virtually impossible to smoke a glass pipe into overheating. This makes them flavor-neutral smoking devices.

For this reason, oil and dabbing pipes are also made of glass. Only with glass pipes can you indirectly heat and vaporize herbs and resins.

Metal Pipes

Metal cannabis pipes are indestructible, easy to clean, and therefore particularly durable.

Wooden Pipes

Traditional pipe smokers swear by wooden pipes. There are good reasons for this preference. Wood is a material that feels very comfortable in the hand because it absorbs the smoker’s body heat faster than any other material.

Stone, Soapstone, and Sea Foam Pipes

Sea foam is a mineral, a magnesium silicate, to be precise. It is used to make pipes because it is easy to work with and, due to its low density, has high thermal conductivity. This makes it feel similar to a wooden pipe.

Soapstone pipes are also easy to work with and, unlike stone pipes, have always been used to make pipes or pipe parts.

All three types are flavor-neutral and durable.

In addition to these, there are pipes made from combinations of materials—such as wooden pipes with glass or stone bowls—as well as silicone pipes, which are usually fitted with metal bowls.

Special Pipe Designs

Kawumm

A Kawumm is a glass pipe with a large kick hole at the end of the stem.

Pure Pipe

A pure pipe has a small bowl, since it is used to smoke cannabis without tobacco.

One-Hitter

A one-hitter is smaller than a pure pipe, since its bowl is designed for just a single hit. It is usually used for hash.

Monkey Pipe

A monkey pipe has a hinge and folds shut so that the bowl is completely covered, making it ideal for transporting a packed pipe.

Zipsey Pipes

Zipsey pipes are water pipes that originate from the Arab world.

Nectar Collector

A nectar collector is a dabbing pipe in which the tip is heated and the oil is applied to a carrier outside the pipe.

Bud Bomb

A bud bomb is a screw-top pipe with a spiral inside.

What accessories are needed for pipes?

The most common accessory for pipes is the screen. We distinguish between flat screens, which are pressed into the bowl, and bowl screens, which are hung inside the bowl.

Otherwise, a pipe cleaner is useful for cleaning the pipe.

How do you clean and care for your pipe?

To care for a pipe and use it for a long time, very few accessories are needed.

A simple pipe cleaner is sufficient for removing the residue that collects in the shank while smoking.

Those who prefer wooden pipes should also consider a scraper to clean out the bowl.

For metal or glass pipes, you can use “Schmand weg” or other cleaners to clean the bowl. In most cases, metal or glass smoking devices can simply be washed in the dishwasher.
